The German Cockroach
The German cockroach is a small kind of cockroach, usually about 1.1 – 1.6 cm long. Its color differs from tan to nearly black, and has two dark, unevenly matching, stripes on the pronotum going anteroposteriorly from the back of its head to the base of its wings. Though it has wings, it can hardly fly, but may glide if bothered. It is perhaps the most troublesome among other few kinds of cockroach that are home pests.
They are Australian cockroach pests that mostly habit human buildings, particularly restaurants, hotels, food processing facilities and institutional establishments like nursing homes. They cannot stay alive under serious cold, so they exist only close to human abodes.
The German cockroaches are omnivorous hunters. Food materials that attract them include meats, sugars, starches and greasy foods. If there are no foodstuffs around, they might live on domestic items like glue, soap, and toothpaste, while in famine circumstances, they become cannibalistic, chewing on each other’s legs and wings.
